Wireless Noise Cancelling Earphones

If you prefer traveling in peace and quiet, nothing stops the person in the seat next to you from making small talk like these bad boys. Don’t even get me started on the baby crying in row 37 on that long-haul flight. Personally, it drives me up the wall. Not that I’m antisocial or hate babies (seriously, who does?). I just like to enjoy my journey listening to my fave tunes and not to someone else’s life story. Which is why I love the idea of noise cancelling earphones.

These wireless bluetooth earphones are the perfect solution for keeping your tunes flowing and cancelling out unwanted external noise. Not only do you get to listen to your favourite music for up to 9 hours, they are also super lightweight. And because they’re wireless, you’ll never have to worry about the damn string getting tangled up in literally everything around you. Added to that, these earphones are incredibly comfy and splash proof.  Which means they’re great for on-the-go use literally everywhere; whether you’re traveling, hiking, going for a jog or just hanging out.

Available in six awesome colours. Check current prices here.

A portable charger

I never go anywhere without my portable charger. For starters, I never have to worry about my iPhone’s battery running out just before I find that picture-perfect setting I’ve been looking for the whole morning. Nor do I need to stress about how on earth I’m going to find XYZ. With this portable charger, you’ll never have to worry about any of that ever again. Added to that, it is one of the smallest and lightest external batteries out there. It’s ultra-compact design and Anker’s world-renowned PowerIQ and VoltageBoost give a tailored, high-speed charge to almost any device; making them a pretty neat travel gadget or gift.

Available in black. Check it out here.

A digital luggage scale

This digital luggage scale is a great addition to any traveler’s travel gadgets and a great travel gift. Now you can measure the weight of your luggage on-the-go without worrying about paying in those nasty excess baggage costs. What I love most about this digital scale is that it measures weight in both pounds and kilos (up to 100lb/ 50kg). So you’ll never have to worry about converting the measuring units. Added to that, the simple button operation, bright backlit display and big letters make it extremely user-friendly. Check current prices here.

A universal travel adapter

This travel adapter is an awesome travel gift and a must for any frequent traveler. You’ll never have to sweat about dragging those nasty multi-set plugs with you (hoping one of the prongs will fit). Because this little guy works in 150 countries.  It’s also compatible with dual voltage appliances. So basically, it works with most cameras, smart phones and laptops that has 100-250 VAC 50/60Hz input voltage. In addition, the USB ports allow you to charge multiple devices easily and safely.  Check it out here.

Gadget Tip: As with most travel adapters, please remember that they do not actually convert voltage. Universal ac adapters only convert the power outlet. If you are taking high power appliances, such as hair dryers or straighteners with you, please remember to also take an electrical converter when traveling to countries with a different electrical output. Also, before you buy any travel adapter, it’s vital to read the fine print. So don’t forget to make sure it covers all those awesome countries you plan on visiting before you hit buy!

A microfiber travel towel

Tired of dragging a bulky, wet towel with you everywhere? I sure am! Luckily for us swimmers, beach lovers, and hikers there are microfiber towels! One of the coolest inventions of all time. Not only do they dry quick, sand literally cannot stick to these guys! I love these stylish retro cabana designs from Dock & Bay. Apart from being super colourful, they’re lightweight and pack down easily, putting them right up there with most desired travel gifts.

Available in 3 different sizes and 7 different colours. Check prices here.

A Collapsible & Reusable Water Bottle

With this durable and reusable water bottle, you won’t need to worry about wasting water. Or more importantly, your plastic footprint on the environment. It’s made from 100% non-toxic materials, BPA-free and food-grade safe, making it the perfect travel gift for the sustainable traveler in your life. And because it conveniently rolls up or squashes down when space it tight, it’s ideal for traveling, hiking and even camping. In addition, it’s 100% leakproof and comes with a leak proof twist cap, which completely eliminates leaks and spills. But that’s not all; it’s extremely versatile too. It handles both hot and cold water and you can even toss it in the dishwasher when you get home from your trip! Win, win, win!

Available in 11 different colours. Check it out here.

A travel wallet

A proper travel wallet is most probably one of the most wanted travel gifts out there. Let’s be honest, no one likes fiddling in their bag or pockets for travel docs. Especially not when there is a long queue behind you. The solution? A travel wallet. I love this stylish yet simple all-in-one travel wallet because, you can literally keep all your travel documents together in one easy to find place. Although it is slightly larger than normal travel wallets, it fits cash, credit cards, two passports, boarding passes and even a pen! Don’t worry; even though it packs a lot, it still easily fits into a jacket pocket.

Available in 6 gorgeous colours (although I adore the Sky Mint). Check it out here.

A Travel Book

What better travel gift than a beautiful coffee table book to inspire some wanderlust? Not only does this book have a gorgeous layout, it also covers some of the most breathtaking destinations in the world. With handy tips on when to go, where to eat, where to stay, and what to do you’ll find more than enough inspiration for your next trip. Check out Nat Geo’s awesome travel book here.

Packing cubes

Packing cubes are most probably one of the most sought after travel gifts out there at the mo. And you wouldn’t believe what a difference they make to your life. Say goodbye to messy suitcases and everything smelling like your grandpa’s old socks. Not to mention, utilising packing space properly. With these luggage organisers, you too can pack like a pro. The neatest part? The mesh-design allows you to easily find exactly what you are looking for in a jiffy. This particular set has 2 large cubes, 1 medium cube, 2 small cubes and a shoe bag which can frankly double as a small dirty laundry bag!

Available in 12 different colours. Get these packing cubes here.

A waterproof dry bag

One of my biggest fears whilst doing adventure sports is that my all stuff will get wet. Plus, I really prefer keeping my valuables close as I’m so not a ‘locker-kind-of-person.’ Which is why, I think every adventure sports enthusiast should have one of these. You see, instead of worrying about your bag falling out of the raft or getting your cellphone wet, you can actually enjoy that rapid on your whitewater rafting trip. Furthermore, dry bags keep all your gear dry and safe for all kinds of outdoorsy activities; from kayaking, rafting, boating, hiking, camping and even fishing.

This dry bag is made from 5000 PVC, which means it’s exceptionally durable. Added bonus; it comes in 5 different sizes. So whether you are shopping for a light packer or for someone who’s planning a more extensive adventure,  you’ll easily find the perfect fit.

Available in 8 different colours and comes with a nifty waterproof phone case. Check current prices here.

    • Thanks so much, Sanne. So true; I used to spend hours packing and repacking my suitcase. But now, I literally organise my things into cubes and just put them in my suitcase. Who knew packing could be such a breeze?

  • Oh, adapters and chargers are a must! And you know what, I might just share your post with few friends of mine so that the next time they are giving me a present, it would be something I’d actually need! 😀
    Good list, thanks!

  • Great tips. We have some version of almost all of these – except the dry bag and the scale. My husband has a good sense of what 50 lbs feels like to lift, so that works in most cases. When it comes to different luggage restrictions, especially in kilograms, then we’re at a loss and a scale would definitely help!

    • Thanks for taking the time to comment, Michelle. I’ll check out your list! Your husband sounds like a handy guy to have around! 🙂 I’m the worst at converting measurements, so a luggage scale is definitely a worthy investment for anyone in the same boat as me!

  • Didn’t realise until now that there’s a cheaper alternative to noise cancelling earphones. Cause it usually costs more than RM 1000! Thanks for the recommendation, will check them out!

    • Thanks for stopping by, Jeremy. Wow, that is expensive! I quickly did a quick conversion to NT$ and that’s practically a return flight from Taiwan to any hit-list destination within Asia!

      Happy this list can help.

  • This is such an exceptional list of gifts which will come in handy as I have plenty of friends who are travellers. I am saving your post and hope to put it to use soon. Thanks for the detailed list!
