Planning a trip to Krabi and trying to figure out where to stay in Ao Nang?
For most travelers, Ao Nang is the obvious gateway to Thailand’s Krabi region. It has an airport, a walkable beach strip, and puts you right near some of Krabi’s best beaches—like Railay—as well as islands like Phi Phi, Maya Bay, and Hong Island.
After spending more than a decade living in Asia, I’ve been to Krabi a few times, and Ao Nang is still one of my favorite bases. The vibe here is nothing like Phi Phi or Railay (and definitely not like Phuket—though that’s technically in a different province).
If it’s your first visit, Ao Nang is a good pick. It’s busier than Railay but doesn’t have the party vibe that Phi Phi is known for. You’ll find a mix of sightseeing, beaches, island hopping, shopping, and places to stay—from basic hostels to upmarket resorts.
That said, where you stay in Ao Nang can really shape your whole trip. Some areas are right in the thick of things, while others are much more laid-back—and it’s not always obvious which is which just by looking at a map.
In this guide, I’ll break down what to expect in each area, share where I’ve stayed (and what I liked), and highlight other options for different budgets and travel styles.

Quick Area Overview
Before jumping into accommodation options, let’s talk neighborhoods. Ao Nang is split into a few different areas, and choosing the right one is the best way to match your stay to your travel style.
To keep things simple, I’ve split this guide by neighborhood—each with a handful of stays for every budget and travel style. Here’s a quick look at the main areas:
- Ao Nang Village: Great for first-timers
- Noppharat Thara: Perfect for sunset-chasers and a laid-back vibe
- Ao Nang Beach: Best for beach lovers
I’ve stayed near both Ao Nang Beach and Noppharat Thara, and honestly, I prefer Noppharat Thara. The vibe is more laid-back, the night market is nearby, and the beach is usually pretty quiet. Plus, you’re still only about a 15-minute walk from the center of town.

Why Stay in Ao Nang & What to Expect
If you’re expecting a sleepy beach town, Ao Nang is not that. We’re in Thailand after all—so think tuk tuks, late-night food stalls, Muay Thai fight clubs, and a handful of rowdy bars. But that’s not all there is to this place.
There’s a long list of things to do, gorgeous sunsets, great beaches, and plenty of spots to grab Pad Thai or banana pancakes. Even though some areas get busy, you’re never far from your own quiet patch of sand or a rustic beach shack for an ice-cold Singha or Chang. I love that you can hop on a boat in the morning and be hiking, snorkeling, or eating grilled fish on one of Krabi’s islands by lunchtime.
Of course, it’s not all picture-perfect. Ao Nang’s main strip can be loud, and it’s got its fair share of sketchy bars. But honestly, it’s easy enough to avoid that scene, and there’s plenty of variety—so you can always find what you like.
If you want easy access to the airport, day trips, shopping, and night markets, Ao Nang is a solid base for exploring Krabi.

Best Places to Stay in Ao Nang Village
- Best for first-timers
Ao Nang’s village center has the most shops, restaurants, nightlife, and easy access to the beach. If you want everything close by (with no taxi hassles or long walks), this is the spot.
During the day, things are pretty quiet since most people are out island-hopping. But it gets much busier with bigger crowds and more noise once the sun sets. If it’s your first time in Krabi and you want to be close to food, shops, and the beach, staying central is a convenient choice.
TAN Hostel x Café

I don’t stay in hostels anymore, but if I had to pick one in Ao Nang, I’d go with TAN Hostel x Café. It’s modern, and the reviews on Agoda, Booking.com, and Hostelworld are all solid (yes, I checked all three).
It’s about a 10-minute walk to the beach and the main strip. Rooms are clean and adults-only, with air-conditioned dorms or private options and shared bathrooms. Free Wi-Fi is standard, and there’s a nice café space where you can chill.
The café serves all-day brunch and specialty coffees (think smoothie bowls and creative lattes), with plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices. Other useful perks are an airport shuttle, luggage storage, a tour desk, a communal kitchen, and daily housekeeping.
If you’re after a low-key hostel with good coffee and clean, modern rooms, this is the one I’d recommend.
The L Resort

The L Resort is a good pick if you want something a bit more upscale but still reasonably priced. It’s right on the main promenade, just steps from the main beach and close to plenty of shops and restaurants. The boat service club is also around the corner, so it’s easy to catch a long-tail boat to Railay.
The rooms are spacious and modern, and come with all the usual amenities for a 4-star stay (including 24-hour room service and in-room massages). There’s a nice pool, and the on-site restaurant, which serves Thai-Swiss dishes—apparently the hot stone steak is a must.
Panan Krabi Resort

Panan Krabi Resort is a 4-star hotel offering great value for money. Rooms are modern and minimalist, with flatscreen TVs, mini-fridges, blackout curtains, and AC. You can choose between standard rooms or family suites, which is a nice perk if you’re traveling with kids.
There’s a big outdoor pool, a kids’ club, and a children’s pool, so if you’re planning a family holiday, there’s plenty to keep little ones busy.

Pop-in Hostel
If you’re traveling on a budget, Pop-In Hostel is another good option. It’s right in the middle of town, and an easy 10-15 minute walk to the beach and close to bars, restaurants, and anything else you’ll need.
You’ll find both dorms and private rooms here, so it works whether you’re up for meeting people or just want your own space. The big communal area is always busy, with regular BBQ nights, pub crawls, and an on-site bar. If you want to book a dive trip, they can help with that too (they’re PADI registered).
Expect all the basics: free Wi-Fi, secure lockers, an airport shuttle, and laundry. It’s not fancy, but if you’re looking for a friendly, social hostel with all the essentials, it does the job.
Ibis Styles

I’ve stayed at a couple of Ibis hotels—once on a road trip in France and again in Seminyak, Bali—and they’ve always been a reliable choice for an affordable stay with good amenities. The Ao Nang location is no different.
The rooms are compact but modern and comfortable. There’s a nice pool and friendly staff, and it’s about a 10–15-minute walk to the beach. The hotel also offers a free shuttle, a kids’ playground, and wheelchair access, so it’s a handy base for families or anyone who wants a budget-friendly spot with a few extras.
Where to Stay Near Noppharat Thara
- Best for sunset-chasers and laid-back vibes.
This is my favorite place to stay in Ao Nang. Noppharat Thara is right next to the main village but feels much more relaxed. It’s not in the busiest part of town, so you get a quieter vibe and way fewer crowds.
Most places to stay are along the main road (4203), but there are some good options hidden in the side streets. The beach is just a short walk away and is usually quiet—or at least, less busy than Ao Nang Beach.
You’ll find lots of restaurants, little shops, and the Ao Nang Night Market for street food. If you want more going on, the center of Ao Nang is an easy 10–15 minute walk.
Areetara Resort

I stayed at Areetara Resort on a solo trip to Krabi and found it to be a great, affordable base. The location is ideal: it’s tucked away on a quiet street, but you can still walk to the beach (about 9 minutes) and the main promenade (about 15 minutes). The night market is about a 16-minute walk away, and there are lots of food, shopping, and massage spots nearby.
The spacious and comfortable rooms each have a balcony, perfect for relaxing after a day in the sun. There’s also a decent outdoor pool with loungers and a bar, plus an on-site restaurant serving both Thai and Western food.
Aonang Buri Resort

Before booking Areetara, I actually considered Aonang Buri. It looked really nice, but since I was traveling solo, I needed something a bit more budget-friendly.
It’s right across from Noppharat Thara Beach, so if you want easy beach access, it’s a great mid-range pick. You can spend the day on the sand, hit the nearby beach bars, or catch a long-tail boat out to explore the surrounding area.
Rooms are spacious and modern, and there’s a pool if you want to just hang out at the hotel.
Deevana Plaza

If you want an upscale stay, Deevana Plaza might just be right up your alley. It’s set in a quiet area away from the main village, but you’re still close to everything.
The hotel has all the comforts you’d expect from a higher-end spot—think fitness center, outdoor pool, and tour desk for easy trip planning. It’s a good pick if you want a relaxing base with a few extra perks.

Best Hotels Near Ao Nang Beach
- Best for beachgoers.
If you want to be near the water, there are several hotels and resorts along Ao Nang Beach. Rates here are usually a bit higher than elsewhere in town, but you’ll be within walking distance of both the beach and the main strip. Another perk, some places even offer direct beach access. If easy access to the beach is a priority, this area is a good bet.
Krabi Resort

I stayed at Krabi Resort on my very first trip to Ao Nang and really loved it. The pool was great, the breakfast was excellent, and we even got upgraded to a pool suite—which was a highlight.
The resort has beautiful gardens and its own private beach, which is perfect if you’re like me and hate crowded beaches. There’s a range of room types for different budgets, but if you want to splurge, the poolside villas are worth it.
There is also a restaurant and a pool bar on site, and the tour desk can help arrange day trips to places like Koh Phi Phi (highly recommended).
The resort is about a five-minute walk to Ao Nang’s main area, so you’re close to shops, restaurants, and nightlife.
Aonang Princeville Villa Resort & Spa

The Princeville Villa Resort & Spa is a solid choice if you want something close to the beach but still central. The rooms are big, and they also offer family suites, which is great if you’re coming with kids. The gardens are leafy, and there are two pools to choose from.
The on-site restaurant does proper Halal Thai food (plus a few international options), and you’re close enough to walk to everything in Ao Nang.
Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort & Spa

Another good option with direct beach access and lots of amenities is Centara Beach Resort. It’s on the quieter end of Ao Nang Beach, but you’re still a short walk from shops and nightlife.
The resort has two pools, a private beach area, and spacious modern rooms. It works well for both families and couples, though it can get a bit lively during peak season. If you’re after a full-on resort stay with easy access to the beach and the main strip, this one is a safe bet.
KOKO Party Hostel

If you’re here for the party scene, KOKO Party Hostel is just a 3-minute walk to the beach and close to all the bars and late-night spots. Expect basic dorms and private rooms (both with AC and lockers), and a busy social area with an on-site bar and nightly events that go until about 1 am.
The staff is friendly and can help with bookings or local tips. It’s not the place for you if you want a quiet stay, but if you want to meet people and be in the middle of everything, it’s a good choice.

How to Get to Ao Nang from the Airport
Most travelers land at Krabi International Airport, which is about 27km from Ao Nang. Flights from Bangkok are cheap and quick, and there are direct connections from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and other major Asian cities.
Getting to town from the airport is easy—here are the main options:
- By Airport Bus
The cheapest way to get into town is by airport bus. Tickets are 150 Baht per person, and you can buy them right at the stalls in the arrivals hall. Buses usually run every hour or so from around 6 am to 8 pm, but they’ll wait until they’re full before leaving.
There’s no fixed route, so just tell the driver your hotel and they’ll drop you as close as possible. It’s a great budget option, but keep in mind the ride can take about an hour or longer if you’re one of the last stops.
- By Fixed-rate Taxi
A faster (and much easier) way to get straight to your hotel is by taxi. The official airport taxis have a flat fare of 600 Baht per car (up to four people) and can be booked at the counters inside the arrivals hall.
You might spot a few metered taxis outside, sometimes offering slightly lower prices. If you go this route, always agree on a fare before you get in to avoid any surprises.
- Private Transfer
For a hassle-free ride, you can book a private transfer online with 12Go or arrange one via your hotel.
