Where to Stay in Taipei: 25 Fabulous Hotels & Hostels for ANY Budget

Best Hotels in Xinyi

Best for luxe travelers, shoppers, and partygoers.

Xinyi is one of the absolute best places to stay in Taipei. The city’s financial hub is home to tons of shopping malls, high-end luxury stores, nightclubs, and swanky bars. As a result, it’s known as Taipei’s best nightlife area. Xinyi is also home to the city’s most iconic landmark, Taipei 101 – the tallest skyscraper in the country.

Another unmissable attraction near here is Elephant Mountain. It’s one of the easiest hikes in the city and a huge Instagram hot spot, thanks to the unobstructed view you can get here of Taipei 101.

Xinyi has a wide variety of accommodation options, but finding a cheap place is not the easiest task. While most hotels cater to mid-range and luxury travelers, it’s not entirely impossible to find a budget-friendly place to stay. Here are the best places to stay in Taipei’s Xinyi District.

Luxury: W Taipei

Book yourself into the gorgeous 5-star W Taipei for the ultimate luxury stay in Taipei.

The W is located mere steps from Xinyi’s iconic landmarks and shopping malls and offers unbeatable views over Taipei 101. If you can tear yourself away from your luxurious room, enjoy a pamper session at the spa, relax poolside, indulge at one of the many amazing onsite restaurants, or admire the city’s skyline from the swanky YEN Bar.

Mid-Range: Pacific Business Hotel

Whether you’re a business traveler or traveling in a group, Pacific Business Hotel is the perfect choice for travelers looking for an affordable mid-range Taipei hotel in Xinyi.

The hotel is located within 5 minutes of Taipei 101 Tower, making it easy to access Taiwan’s fastest elevator, sample the famous soup dumplings at Ding Tai Fung, or work in some retail therapy.

Besides the great location and excellent service, you can expect spotless rooms, comfy beds, and a great breakfast spread!

Budget: Work Inn 101

Finding a great budget hotel in Taipei’s Xinyi District is not the easiest task. But thankfully, there’s Work Inn 101.

Work Inn 101 is a cool hostel sporting colorful designs. It is located 200m from the Taipei 101 World Trade Center MRT Station with lots of shops and eateries surrounding it.

The hostel also has a lovely communal area where you can relax after a day of exploration, and the kitchen is equipped with all the facilities you need to channel your inner chef. The dorm rooms feature clean, minimalistic interiors with comfy beds and essential amenities. There’s even an on-site laundry service for those who prefer to keep their Taiwan packing list minimal.

Best Hotels in Daan

Best for foodies, culture seekers, and park lovers

Daan is my favorite place to stay in Taipei. There are tons to do, and the area is full of hipster cafes, some of the best eateries in the city, swanky bars, boutique shops, and markets.

Not surprisingly, Daan’s biggest draw is its great food scene, so if you’re a foodie, this is where to stay in Taipei! Yongkang Street, in particular, is a great place to go on a gastronomical adventure. Make sure also to explore the alleys jolting off from the main street because there are loads of hidden gems here!

After you’ve stuffed your face, take a relaxing stroll through Daan Park – a sprawling park often dubbed the “green lungs” of the city.

Other highlights include Shida Night Market (yes, more food!), Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Jianguo Jade and Flower Market, and the Jut Art Museum. If shopping is your thing, head out to the fancy shopping malls along Zhongxiao East Road.

Luxury: Hotel Eclat

If you’re looking for a posh boutique hotel in Taipei, then Hotel Eclat is for you.

Located less than 450m from Daan Station, Hotel Eclat offers easy access to all of Taipei’s best bits. While the hotel is at a busy intersection, you won’t notice any of the hustle and bustle outside. Lots of greenery surround the hotel, and there are many shops and eateries a short walk away.

However, its unique design and finishes make Hotel Eclat a must-stay place in Taipei. With quirky art pieces on display in the lobby and the most uniquely decorated rooms, this 5-star hotel is amazing!

Mid-Range: Swiio Hotel

Swiio Hotel is a gorgeous 4-star hotel perfect for travelers looking for an upscale stay at affordable rates.

Featuring uber-cool decor and architecture, this hotel is beautiful both inside and out. The rooms are spacious and have all the mod cons you’ll need for a comfortable stay. Plus, the beds are super comfy!

Swiio Hotel also comes with a swanky bar where you can sip boozy cocktails and a fitness center if you need to burn off any calories from snacking your way through Taipei.

Another bonus is the shuttle service, and it’s easy to arrange tours or reserve a table at Taipei’s hottest restaurants right at the front desk.

Budget: Nihao Cafe Hotel

You won’t find a huge selection of cheap places to stay in Daan, but one of the best-priced hotels is Nihao Cafe Hotel.

This cozy 3-star hotel offers surprisingly affordable rates without sacrificing style and comfort. The hotel features bright interiors with lots of greenery and modern finishes. And if you get hungry, you can enjoy a gourmet sandwich and a really good cuppa at its garden-like cafe.

Another great reason to stay here is the hotel’s great location! Nihao Cafe Hotel is a 1-minute walk from the Daan MRT Station and a 10-minute walk from Daan Forest Park!

Best Hotels near Taipei Main Station (Zhongzheng District)

Best for first-time visitors and those traveling further afield.

Zhongzheng District is considered the city center of Taipei, and it’s a thriving hub full of history and culture.

The district is home to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Liberty Square, the Presidential Office Building, Huashan 1914 Creative Park, and the National Taiwan Museum.

Besides all the sites, Zhongzheng is also home to Taipei Main Station – the main transport hub in the city with connections to practically every corner of Taiwan. And as a result, it’s revered as the best place to stay for first-time visitors to Taipei. (Also read these handy travel tips if you’re a first-timer).

If you’re planning a more extensive Taiwan travel itinerary, base yourself at one of these hotels near Taipei Main Station.

Luxury: Palais de Chine Hotel

Palais de Chine is where to stay in Taipei if you’re looking for a gorgeous 5-star hotel right in the thick of town.

Despite being located mere steps from Taipei Main Station, entering this opulent hotel will make you feel like you’ve entered a different world. The hotel features exquisite decor throughout the property, and spacious, clean rooms.

You’ll also have access to a glistening outdoor pool, fitness center, and several on-site restaurants (including Taipei’s only 3 star Michelin restaurant) to compliment your stay.

Mid-Range: Hotel Relax

Hotel Relax is a great option if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay near Taipei Main station without sacrificing style and comfort. The hotel features sleek decor, and there are lots of shops and eateries practically on your doorstep.

As for the rooms, you can expect everything you need to make your stay memorable, from top-notch amenities to beautifully decorated interiors. Make sure to book a room with breakfast!

Budget: CityInn Hotel

If you don’t like staying in hostels but still want a cheap place to stay in Taipei, CityInn Hotel is your best bet.

City Inn is a hotel chain group with several great budget hotels scattered around Taipei. Three of their branches (CityInn I, CityInn II, or CityInn III) are actually within walking distance of Taipei Main Station and Taipei Bus Station, making it easy to travel further afield.

While the rooms are simple, they are clean and modern. The staff is also super helpful, and no matter which branch you decide to stay at, you’ll have easy access to food and lots of shops.

Best Ximending Hotels & Hostels

Best for solo travelers, foodies, shoppers, and street art chasers.

Even though Ximending forms part of Taipei’s oldest district, Wanhua, it’s one of the hippest neighborhoods in the city!

Wanhua itself is not a bad area to stay in Taipei. You’ll find many of the city’s important historical landmarks here, such as Longshan Temple, the Baopilou Historical block, and Huaxi Street Night Market. However, the area can feel a bit scruffy, and it’s well-known locally as Taipei’s red-light district. Therefore, the best place to stay in this area is within the pocket of Ximending. That way, you’ll still be within walking distance from the district’s main tourist attractions sans the scruffiness.

What really makes Ximending such a cool place to stay is its great nightlife vibe. There are tons of shops, eateries, and LGBT-friendly bars here. And as a result, it’s always bustling with shoppers, photographers, gourmands, and street artists

If that’s your scene, here are my recommendations on where to stay in Taipei’s Ximending.

Affordable Luxury: Just Sleep Ximending

Just Sleep Hotel is a stunning contemporary hotel sporting colorful interiors and a funky lounge where you can relax.

The 4-star hotel is perfect for travelers looking for an upscale stay near the lively streets of Ximending. The vibe at Just Sleep is very hip, and you’ll find the rooms to be both comfortable and spacious. Other highlights include self-service laundry, fantastic breakfast, super helpful staff, a 7-eleven right next door, and proximity to the MRT!

Check rates on Agoda

Mid-Range: Amba Taipei Ximending

If a modern chic 4-star hotel appeals to you, check into Amba Taipei.

Located right in the heart of Ximending, the Amba hotel offers easy access to lots of eateries, great shopping, and a vibrant nightlife scene that makes this part of Taipei so appealing.

Unlike most hotels in Taipei, the rooms here are spacious, and even while the decor is somewhat on the simple side, each room is airy and equipped with essential amenities. The staff is friendly and helpful too!

Budget: Meander Taipei Hostel

If you’re looking for a great budget-friendly hotel in Taipei in Ximending District, then Meander Taipei Hostel is your answer.

Located less than a 10-minute walk from the Ximending Shopping Area, this funky hostel offers some of the cheapest accommodation in Taipei. Besides the great prices, the hostel’s staff are friendly and super helpful.

With dorm and private rooms, this hostel is perfect for anyone from backpackers to solo travelers to couples. The rooms are basic but clean, modern, and bright. Other highlights to staying here include a game room and a cool rooftop area where you can chill and mingle with other travelers.

Best Hotels in Zhongshan

Best for families, history buffs, and art lovers.

Zhongshan lies just north of Zhongzheng District and is home to several tourist attractions worth visiting.

The area is best suited for laid-back travelers looking for a more traditional vibe. It has a good selection of accommodation options catering to all budgets, but perhaps its best attribute is the wide range of museums.

While here, check out the Fine Arts Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine, and Lin An-Tai Historical House. If you want to catch a traditional Chinese opera performance or puppet show, don’t miss TaipeiEYE.

Zhongshan also borders Songshan District, which is home to Songshan Airport. So if you want to zip off to one of the outlying islands like Penghu, or perhaps even fly to Taroko Gorge on a day trip, this would be a very convenient location.

Luxury: The Okura Prestige

The Okura Prestige is an impressive 5-star hotel set right in the heart of Zhongshan District.

Featuring impeccable design and world-class service, this hotel is perfect for luxury travelers who want to take their stay in Taipei to the next level. With modern, spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and two on-site restaurants dishing up Cantonese and Japanese cuisine, your stay will be nothing but memorable.

Being within walking distance to tranquil parks, bustling markets, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are added bonuses!

Luxury: Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel is one of Taipei’s most iconic luxury hotels, and it’s not hard to see why.

With breathtaking architecture resembling an oriental-style palace, opulent decor, and elegant rooms, checking in at the Grand Hotel is a huge must for anyone looking for a unique stay in Taipei. If you can tear yourself away from your regal room, relax poolside with a glass of bubbly or pamper yourself at the on-site spa.

Don’t forget your camera if you’re into photography because there are loads of excellent photo ops around the hotel!

Mid-Range: Hotel le Home

Hotel le Home is one of the coolest minimalistic hotels in Taipei. Inspired by French aesthetics, this airy 3-star hotel features beautiful clean interiors with nice artistic touches.

The hotel sits at an excellent location (only 5 minutes walk from Shuanglian Station). And if you feel like exploring the surroundings, there are lots of trendy cafes nearby, while Ningxia Night Market is only 1.1 km away.

Budget: Chill Roof Hotel

If you prefer something a bit more affordable, check into Chill Roof Hotel. This quirky 2-star design hotel has a relaxing vibe and is located only 7 minute walk from Songjiang Nanjing Station.

The hotel is very laid-back with modern minimalistic decor. But don’t let that fool you. The rooms are spacious and have comfy beds (make sure you book the right room because some only come with tatami-style beds). The staff is also super helpful, while the lounge is a great place to hang out and read books. Don’t miss the drip coffee!

Many shops, parks, and eateries surround this hotel, making it a great base for anyone from upscale solo travelers to couples to those traveling with family or friends.

Where to Stay in Beitou

Best for outdoorsy travelers and hot spring lovers.

Beitou sits right at the edge of Taipei City and is the city’s northernmost district. If you want to be right in the thick of the city, this won’t be the place for you. But if you’re into nature, hiking, soaking in hot springs, and looking to really slow down, it doesn’t get much better than this!

Beitou is a beautiful mountainous area right at the foothills of Yangmingshan National Park. It’s full of greenery and some of the most luxurious hot spring resorts in Taiwan. It’s also home to the Beitou Thermal Valley – a steamy body of sulfuric water that reaches up to 100℃!

Luxury: Grand View Resort

The Grand View Resort Beitou is one of the most luxurious hotels in Taipei. It’s perfect for those looking for a tranquil setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The gorgeous 5-star resort offers sweeping views over green mountains and is a short walk from Beitou’s top attractions like the Beitou Hell Valley, the Beitou Museum, and Puji Temple.

Besides the peaceful surroundings and elegant interiors, the rooms are posh and spacious, each coming with a private hot spring tub and balcony. You’ll also find a stunning outdoor pool, a premium spa, and three restaurants serving French, Taiwanese, and continental cuisines on-site.

Mid-Range: Waterhouse

If the Grand View Resort is way out of your budget, check-in at the Waterhouse Hotel.

This beautiful hot spring hotel offers Japanese-inspired guest rooms with modern interiors, comfy beds, and an amazing tub where you can enjoy a private onsen experience. Along with the great rooms, the resort also has great spa facilities with several hot spring pools. But perhaps the best part is that even if you’re only visiting Beitou on a day trip from Taipei, you can still use the hotel’s hot springs for a small fee.

Best Hotels in Shilin

Best for foodies, culture vultures, history buffs and shoppers.

Shilin District is as far from the glitz and glam of modern Taipei City as you can get, but it’s perfect for travelers who want to experience a more local way of life.

Located in the northern corners of the city, Shilin has a lot going for it. It is home to many museums and historic sites. In particular, the impressive National Palace Museum, which houses the largest collection of ancient Chinese artifacts, Chiang Kai-Shek Shilin Official Residence, and the Taipei Astronomical Museum.

Another highlight here is Shilin Night Market, one of the largest night markets in Taiwan. Tianmu is another must-visit area. The neighborhood is full of boutiques, cafes, and fine eateries. Tianmu is especially popular among expats, so you’ll find a good selection of specialty stores and western food there.

If you’re visiting during spring in Taiwan, don’t miss Yangmingshan National Park! It’s a great place to go hiking and a popular flower viewing spot in the city.

Luxury: Renaissance Taipei

Step into Renaissance Taipei for the ultimate luxury stay in Shilin.

This 4-star property doesn’t just have amazing decor and exquisite rooms but also some pretty impressive views over green mountains. The pool, in particular, is a great place to soak up the scenery with a cocktail in hand! This 4-star property features colorful funky interiors, and the rooms are spacious and clean. Travelers who stay here also rave about the hotel’s buffet, which has a large selection of oriental and western cuisine.

Just a head’s up, though, Uinn Hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the MRT station. So if you’re traveling with lots of luggage, you might want to get a cab instead.
